What is a transient slip at a marina?

A transient slip is a dock space rented out short-term — usually by the night or week — to boaters passing through, as opposed to slips leased long-term to a marina's regular tenants. Availability depends entirely on how much of the marina's dock space is committed to permanent renters.

Do you need a reservation for a transient slip?

It's not always required, but it's strongly recommended, especially at busy marinas during peak boating season when transient space can fill up. Calling the marina's dockmaster ahead of time is the standard way to confirm space and get current rates.
